"This is my crank after doing a flyout today.. so disapointed to think that they are only about 10months old and have been used on a Mtb which shouldnt be as hard on cranks as what these are meant for, a bmx.
Although untill this the cranks have been really good and not flexing much which is weird. When you look really closly at the welds it has started to crank from where the sprocket bolt holder is. From looking inside the cranks i have come to a few conclusions. Firstly that since the Macneil design is 2 circular pipes welded together, for them to weld in a sprocket bolt carrier they have to file down all of the weld from the 2 circular pipes to weld that in there, which is turn is one massive weld in that spot, which is exactly where mine as cracked from.
Also i have measured the tickness of the metal and its just a tad under 1mm which i dont think is thick enough. I also think question the design, when you think about it, its an I beam layed on its side? surely it would be stronger is the crank was facing up not across.
Everyone check there Macneils for Cracks, be safe not much fun when you break it.."
