| magandang araw mga master bikers. im a newbie planning to buy my first bike.
what i will use the bike for: commuting. from quirino taft area to ccp or baywalk or picc (at pag nandun na, jog naman, then bike ulit pauwi) atsaka biking from bahay to work (timog cor edsa).
i wont be trick riding, i probably wont use it sa bundok. city riding lang kumbaga.
my budget is around 5k. im 5'10" 190lbs.
now my question is, ok lang ba ang japanese surplus bikes na bilhin for these purposes? ano ang pros and cons kung bibili ako ng japanese surplus bikes? gusto ko sana nito dahil sa vintage porma.
would it matter kung multi speed bike o single speed bike ang bibilhin kung city riding lang naman?
maraming salamat sa mga tutulong sa akin to purchase my first bike.
nakita ko na yung bikes sa j. ruiz, at yung sa may e. rodriguez. pwede rin siguro ako dumayo ng malabon to buy my bike.
and please, wala pa akong alam sa mga jargon o abbreviations na ginagamit nyo, please enlighten me kunsakali...

| Hello sir. Yan din po ang reason ko when I decided to buy a bike ---- for city commuting.
Hope this helps. welcome to the biking community and ride safe po. |

| Japanese bikes pros: 1. Vintage look. 2. Internal yun 3 speed gears, neat tignan and less maintenance. 3. Usually may mudguard, so pag tag ulan, di ka matatalsikan ng putik. 4. 5. Murang mura at 2 to 3k!!! 6. Mas durable yun mga parts compared to a budget mtb. Japanese bikes cons: 1. Hindi macho tignan, more of ladies bike yun look niya. 3. Mahirap magayos ng flat, dahil in the way yun mudguard and bike stand. 4. Longer wheelbase and geometry, means less maneuverable in tight spots. 5. Surplus goods, means kailangan pa irecondition, depends on the quality na makukuha mo, madalas kasi maraming kalawang . 6. Old school tech, threaded forks, nutted hubs, means harder to maintain. Budget mtb built bike pros: 1. Mas macho tignan. 2. 3. Bigger and gnarlier wheels, means it can take more abuse, ie. potholes, humps, curbs, even a bit of rough road. 4. Tighter geometry than a japanese bike means more maneuverability on tight spots. 5. Possible to learn a few simple tricks which could prove useful in your urban commute and overall bike handling skills. ie. bunnyhops and trackstands. 6. Uses new school tech like threadless forks, suspensions ( kahit na bulok still better than nothing) quick release hubs, bottomline? Easier to ride, fix and maintain. Budget mtb built bike cons: 1. If your after the vintage look, forget the mtb. 2. More expensive. 3. Mas takaw nakaw compared to the japanese bikes, pero not much, kasi mga magnanakaw ngayon marunong na tumingin ng pyesa. 4. Since budget bike to, parts could break from time to time. Anything else anybody want to add? Anhaba pala ng post a! |

| ei maraming salamat sa mga nagreply. i finally decided and bought my very first bike.
a japanese surplus city bike, marukin brand. ok naman ang condition. no rust, chromoly body daw yun, shimano bearing ang breaks sa likod, v breaks ata sa harap o something like that. hindi pa ako familiar sa kinds and tawag sa mga parts.
single speed lang.
i rode it home from timog cor edsa qc to quirino cor taft at medyo mahirap sa pag-akyat ng mga tulay pero not to the point na kelangan ko itulak yung bike. hindi pa kasi siguro ako sanay.
this will be my start-up or intro bike. pag nahiligan ko, saka na lang ako bibili ng mas ok na bike for me to pimp up. for now, i-enjoy ko na muna to. for city biking lang naman. so my next priorities would be safety oriented stuff like bells o busina, mirrors, helmet, reflective stickers etc.
may thread na ba dito on what stuff to buy na accessories for safety purposes? hanapin ko...
maraming salamat sa mga nagreply!
ok naman ang experience, i could get used to this... |

Yup, as long as you get the right parts. |

Either buy a built bike or assemble ka, since pamporma lang at hindi naman issue ang weight and strength, sa tingin ko kaya makabuo ng budget bike na dj style for 15k. Just don't expect to use it on actual djs. For better parts na pwede talaga pang dj, aabutin ka ng mga 20 to 25k kung mag a-assemble ka.
1. Start with a vision street crmo or a street preacher, those two are the cheapest dj-style frames available locally, mga 3k to 4k lang.
2. Get a cheap sus fork na pwede i-lowered to 80mm.
3. Look for cheap bmx stems and bmx 3 pc. cranks.
4. The rest pwede na non-branded parts.
